Tracing Letters is an important first step for writingneatly and eligibly. Writing may sound easy for us adults, but for young children, it may be difficult.
Here are a few tips for teaching your children how to write through tracing.
It may help to start of with practicing to draw straight curved lines.
Draw two dots and ask the child to draw a straight line connecting the two dots:
.____. .____. .____. .____. .____. .____.
Afterwards, draw two dots again, then ask the child to draw a curved line
. . . . . . . . .

When the child has somewhat mastered the straight and curved lines, he/she is ready for letters!
You can go straight to a tracing book...
- Point to a letter (use a whole one, don't pooint out aone with dotted lines).
- Sound out the letter, you can make a game of it with the child.
- Have the child identify the letter.
- Ask what sound the letter makes.
- Point out the dotted letters.
- Remind the child that they are already very good at writing, because they can draw straight and curved lines.
- Hace the child trace the letter(s). Accompany them - trace your own letters, too.
- If the child is tiring or bored, take a break and find a different activity. You can continue later.
- When the child has finished tracing, praise them.
- Frame or hang the finished tarcing somewhere everyone can see!
- Also, a sticker is always a nice reward!
Happy tracing!
The child can see how the finished letter is supposed to look up on the top page.
